4)Young athletes at risk (NJ legislator will introduce a bill requiring all high schools with athletic programs to provide a trainer.) Monday, September 21st, BY JEFF ROBERTS, The Record STAFF WRITER
3) NJSIAA moves softball pitching rubber to 43 feet.
The NJSIAA adopted National Federations softball change moving the pitching rubber in softball back from 40 feet to 43 feet. Many coaches feel that this will result in higher scoring games and require softball teams to add depth to their pitching staff. We shall see.
5) A proposal to establish a sectional non-public meet was approved at the first reading on October 7. The final reading on November 9 will change the way the state structures the outdoor championship program. From the NJSIAA website:
"Rationale:
The number of non-public teams and the size of these teams have been steadily increasing over the years to the point that the State Group Meet level of competition has become cumbersome to handle for the site that hosts the non-public groups. With 40+ competitors in each event, the meet hosting these groups are running several hours longer than its counterpart. In addition, many in the track and field community for several years have felt that it is inherently unfair for some athletes to go through two qualifying meets to reach the Meet of Champions, while others have to go through one meet."
6) A proposal has been introduced to divide the state's approximately 110 boys volleyball teams into four equal sections based on northing (latitude) only, not school size. This proposal, too, will be discussed and voted upon on November 9th.
