Did you know........... that FENCING is the competitive art of dueling using three different weapons, all based on "combat?" In fact, most ancient olympic sports were measures of military prowess..... javelin, discus, archery, equestrian, etc....
The basic fencing weapon is the FOIL, which was first used to resolve "matters of honour." There were no medals for second place!
The EPEE was used in a duel to first blood, playing the ancient role of the modern-day "coin toss."
The SABRE has its origin as a military weapon. It has both a blade and a point and was an excellent weapon to bring to the vulgar brawl that we know as "war."
The use of these three weapons has evolved into a competitive sport where ettiquette is as important as skill.
If you get a chance to attend one of these exciting and entertaining contests, you may find yourself captivated by the skill and stamina required to master this sport.  Like wrestling, this is a team sport where points are earned in a one-on-one bout with both fencers trying to be the first to score five "hits."  Fencing........ the classy way to play "Rock - Paper - Scissors."
